Check out the latest in aging advances, research, and events from NIA:
- Daily low-dose aspirin has little impact on stroke risk and spikes risk of brain bleeding from falls — An NIA-funded study found that taking a low dose of aspirin once a day does not provide significant protection against strokes caused by blood clots and may increase bleeding in the brain after head trauma.
- Work complexity linked to better cognitive aging — Higher job complexity is associated with better cognitive function later in life, according to two studies funded by NIA.
- Strong association shown between being sedentary and dementia risk — NIA-funded researchers found a link between dementia risk and more time spent not moving. The risk of dementia increased greatly for adults who were sedentary for more than 10 hours a day.
- Dysfunctional muscle mitochondria linked to higher dementia risk — Lower mitochondrial function in skeletal muscle may increase the risk of mild cognitive impairment or dementia in older adults according to an NIA-funded study.
